Cupid and Psyche, by sculptor Giovanni Maria Benzoni
Sexuality
The root word for hysteria is the Greek word for uterus, hystera. It
was a woman's issue. No one knew that women had sexual needs of
their own and that living in denial wasn't working. Symptoms were
treated with everything from exorcism to execution. The best
medical treatment was to massage the woman's clitoris until
reaching a hysterical paroxysm. Vibrators were invented to speed
up the procedure.
Repression of women didn't end after that. Depending on the era,
women were forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to punish them
for taking sexual pleasure — a moment of bliss, a lifetime of regret.
Millions of women had their ovaries taken from them, often on the
thinnest pretext and without the woman's permission. The same
treatment of men would have drawn international outrage.
Most of the sexual problems humans struggled with do not exist for
mites. We do not conceive naturally. There are no diseases. Men
and women are fully equal in their needs and rights and can be
trusted to be sensitive to one another.
Genetic engineers had some options; they could make sex shrivel
up and go away or make it much better. When asked, mites said
they wanted the latter. It turned out that sexuality was a favorite
part of their lives, and they wanted more of it — a lot more.
Engineers were able to deliver changes that would surprise and
delight even the sexiest of humans.
Today, mites don't just like sex; they revel in it and need it. Ask one
of us whether life underground is boring without weather or
sunshine, and the first thing to come to mind is apt to be sex.
To an 18-year-old, an appropriate sex partner can be a riveting
source of joy. For both male and female mites, that level of
enthusiasm, fascination, arousal, readiness, thrill, and physical
prowess lasts throughout adult life, undiminished out to age 160.
Adult mites remain as if they were forever 18.
Erogenous zones were expanded and enhanced by popular
requests.
Body scent was changed, giving women a natural perfume and men
a light musk. New pheromones were added to captivate partners
and trigger their response.
Men now have multiple orgasms, remaining aroused and engaged
hour after hour. Women are as eager for sex as men and don't have
to demur.
Both men and women have intense orgasms lasting 10 to 30
seconds and arriving at intervals of around two minutes. They
typically keep up that pace, transported out of this world, for about
an hour — eight hours when it is especially good.
The mites' smaller stature is good for sex and sleep as they do not
have to roll apart to remain comfortable. Weighing only 20 pounds,
they can remain embraced while asleep. Sweet dreams.
Society approves of sex, and since there are no strangers among
mites, an encounter can be arranged easily; mutual attraction is all
that is required. Any mite who wants sex can find it, as there are
numerous opportunities to meet at clubs, spas, buffets, parks, and
shows. A slow dance to take in pheromones is often enough to
launch an evening.
After making a connection, a pair will slip away to a room and flip
over a "Do Not Disturb" sign. All mites have a space of their own,
and some establishments have private rooms in case the 10-minute
shuttle ride home is too long to wait.
